My name is Amanda Pesqueira, President of Delta Zeta at Loyola Marymount University. On behalf of our members, I would like to welcome you to our website! I encourage you to explore this site and learn more about what it means to be a Delta Zeta at LMU!
Becoming a Delta Zeta has provided me with sincere bonds of lasting friendships, socials and an opportunity to do service, but also, Delta Zeta has helped me grow as an individual. Delta Zeta seeks to enrich lives that change the world. We actively participate within our community and we seek to make a difference and a greater impact on our campus.
Amanda Pesqueira
President 2011-2012
In the fall of 1902, Miami University in Oxford, Ohio opened its doors to female students. Six young women: Julia Bishop, Anne Simmons, Mary Collins, Anna Keen, Maybelle Minton, and Alfa Lloyd came together and decided to found the first sorority at Miami University. They accomplished this in less than two weeks after they arrived. These six women chose to name their sorority Delta Zeta and their colors old rose and vieux green. The Delta Zeta sorority was officially incorporated on October 24, 1902. Delta Zeta has continued to prosper throughout the years and has grown into the second largest international sorority.
To the world,
I promise temperance and insight and courage,
To crusade for justice,
To seek the truth and defend it always;
To those whom my life may touch in slight measure,
May I give graciously
Of what is mine;
To my friends,
Understanding and appreciation;
To those closer ones,
Love that is ever steadfast;
To my mind,
Growth;
To myself,
Faith
That I may walk truly
In the light of the Flame.

Our chapter supports Delta Zeta's national philanthropies of the Speech and Hearing and the Painted Turtle.
The ladies of the Xi Omicron chapter consistently perform over 3,000 volunteer hours and support the philanthropies of the LMU Greek community.
Delta Zeta's involvement in speech and hearing has a long and rich history. Since 1954, the Delta Zeta Sorority has shared a partnership with Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., the world's only university with undergraduate programs accessible to hearing-impaired students. Delta Zeta endowed the Delta Zeta Scholarship Fund and the Fine Arts Endowment Fund. Delta Zeta scholarships are awarded annually to Gallaudet University students. In 1995, the Delta Zeta Dance Studio was dedicated on the Gallaudet campus.
In 1985, the House Ear Institute, located in Los Angeles, California, was added as a national philanthropy. Our first project for the Institute was the furnishing of a parents' conference room. Delta Zeta also provides funds for research and clinical services in the Children's Auditory and Research Center.
Delta Zeta is also partnered with The Starkey Hearing Foundation. The Starkey Hearing Foundation provides more than 20,000 hearing aids through more than 150 hearing missions annually in countries all over the world. Delta Zeta chapters assist The Starkey Hearing Foundation's "Hear Now" program by collecting refurbished hearing aids to be distributed to underprivileged areas in the U.S. and around the world.
Perhaps the most personal partnering we currently have is with The Painted Turtle, located in Los Angeles. It is one of Paul Newman's Hole in the Wall camps for chronically ill children and their families, and Delta Zeta is its first sorority partner. As Loyola Marymount University is located so close to the Painted Turtle site, we've been lucky enough to send some of our own girls down for a weekend to volunteer.
Our main philanthropy which happens every fall on LMU's Sunken Gardens is Turtle Tug. Turtle Tug is a tug-of-war competition over pools of green JELLO. Fully equipped with slip 'n' slides and a DJ, our 2010 Turtle Tug had over 750 participants and raised over $11,000. All proceeds were distributed among the organizations partnered with Delta Zeta.
At the heart of Delta Zeta is true sisterhood. Sisterhood is deeper than friendship, it is a sincere connection between the members of our sorority that offers love, trust, and appreciation. Sisterhood is not only the bond we share, it is the laughter and memories we create together. Our sisterhood grows stronger through overnight retreats, movie nights, scrapbooking parties, and shopping dates to pick out the perfect outfit. Whether it is hitting the strip on our Senior Vegas trip or enjoying a sunny day at the beach, we take our sisterhood wherever we go!
As the finest women of Delta Zeta, we know how to work hard, but we certainly know how to play hard.
Our social events are a great way to get off campus and have a blast with your sisters. Some of our big events are exchanges with various fraternities, formals, date nights, and our annual crush party.
Delta Zeta hosts two formals a year.
During the Fall, we have our Diamond Ball, where everyone wears black and white. It makes for fun, vintage looking pictures and memories to last forever.
In the Spring, we host Rose Formal, where you can show off your brightest, most colorful dresses. It's a great opportunity to show off your fabulous style on the arm of your gorgeous date and dance the night away with your sisters.
DZ Date Nights stand out from the rest. Our date nights are not just another dance party; we invite the man of our choice on a true date. Some recent date nights have included an Anaheim Angels Baseball game, renting out a movie theater to have an exclusive showing of the movie of our choice, and a private after hours Halloween event at Disneyland.
An exchange is a themed event between a fraternity and a sorority with fun costumes, good music, and great times. Exchanges are a great way to socialize with the outstanding gentlemen of the fraternities at LMU. Some recent themes have included: Hot Mess, High School Cliques, Cartoon Characters, and "I Can't Live Without..."
Our annual Crush Party tops all other parties of the year. Here's why: Every Delta Zeta is not only allowed to invite one, but two dates to our themed party. These parties are hosted at various clubs and restaurants in Hollywood. Delta Zetas have an amazing time dressing up as hippies and soldiers for an All is Fair in Love and War theme, as well as showing off their best purple, green, and gold for our Mardi Gras theme. Anyone who goes will tell you that it is the best kick off to a new year.
VP New Member Education 2011-2012
From the moment you receive a bid to join the amazing ladies of Delta Zeta, there are so many wonderful opportunities to look forward to. Starting with the new member process, we learn about our rich history as a sorority and the true meaning of sisterhood. Along with this, new members are able to participate in exciting events right away with their new member class, active members of Delta Zeta as well as the rest of the Greek community. As a new member, you will get a Big Sister and a Delta Zeta family, go on a fun overnight retreat with your new member class, and receive many gifts and a lot of love from the active members. Joining Delta Zeta is a great way to meet lots of new people, make new friends, and create memories that will last a lifetime!
We're excited for you to join our sisterhood!
Delta Zeta love and mine
